FLYING LATEEN RIG DETAILS

The Flying Lateen rig utilizes the same hull/rig attachment points that a conventional rig uses, namely the chain plates, the stem fitting and the mast step. Each of these areas requires bolting a flat deck plate to a mating underdeck plate (which in turn is attached to the chain plates and/or stem fitting, as applicable) and to which are attached the Flying Lateen rig components. In order for them to fit perfectly, information (aside from basic boat facts such as length, beam, sail area, etc.) about the above-mentioned areas will be required, most of which will be on your manufacturer's construction drawings, if available.

General Information

• "J" dimension (bow-to-mast step distance)
• Head clearance desired to underside of boom

Chain Plate Area

• The beam of the boat at the chain plates
• The approximate height above the waterline of the deck at the chain-plate area
• A plan view of the chain-plate area illustrating both above- and belowdeck details all around the central chain plate (roughly 6 inches in all directions as applicable)

Stem Fitting Area

• The approximate height above the waterline of the deck at the stem-fitting area
• A plan view of the stem-fitting area illustrating both above- and belowdeck details all around the stem fitting (from the bow to approximately 6 inches aft)

Mast Step Area

• The approximate height above the waterline at the mast step if the mast is stepped on deck or, if not, at that point where it penetrates the deck
• A plan view of this deck area illustrating both above- and belowdeck details all around (roughly 6 inches in all directions
